Games For Good: How will you Restore the world around you?

Hey, everyone!

I'm Paula, the Art Director at GLITCHERS. It's the first time in a while that we've been able to share what we've been working on, so we are super excited to share the news about our game Restore!

This is our first Dev log here, so we wanted to show what's unique about Restore and explain that how you play the game actually contributes to real-world research. Yeah, genuinely!
Simply put, our game boils down to being about your choices, and how you decide to interact with a degraded landscape. Will you plant and nurture trees or expand farmland to secure our food future? The choice is yours!

At the end of each level you'll get an indication of your playstyle depending on how you respond to the world around you. Are you an Agriculturalist? Industrialist? Or one of the other 7 play styles?

We've teamed up with University of Stirling's Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences to help us gain insights into restoring degraded environments in the real world. Your decisions can help shape the future of environmental recovery by seeing your choices, the ripple effect throughout the ecosystem and how you in turn respond to them.

How cool is that!

Here's more of the science behind it - Restore is part of a project called RestoreID (HORIZON-CL6-2023-BIODIV-01-17 that's the official project name!), focused on the links between nature restoration, biodiversity, and disease prevention. Funded by the EU, this project is led by Dr. Brad Duthie and Prof. Nils Bunnefeld.

It takes about 5-20 minutes to play, depending on the level you choose. And don’t worry - it's only your in-game decisions that'll be recorded to help the scientist see what decisions people are making. This version of Restore is still in its prototype phase, so we would to hear your feedback that we can bring in to future versions of the game!

Thanks for reading and looking forward to seeing how you play.
- Paula
